Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Plant and Equipment Manager will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Company’s transport, plant and equipment resources in support of the building construction activities of the Company.
Technical education in relevant disciplines would be an advantage.
Experience in a private sector construction oriented organisation would be preferred but is not essential. Candidates must demonstrate considerable experience in control and maintenance of plant, transport and equipment. The skill sets for this position are: Self-motivation, effective communication, leadership, diagnostic skills and sound technical knowledge of electrics, hydraulics, petrol and diesel and ideally having worked in a similar management role for 5+ years.
The appropriate candidate should be a seasoned professional of no less than 10+ years proven track record and relevant technical certification.
Prime Responsibility
To manage the operation and maintenance of the Company’s transport, plant and equipment resources in support of the building construction activities of the Company.
Duties and Responsibilities – Company Assets
• Maintain real time systems identifying location, availability and status of the Company’s plant and equipment assets.
• Arrange inspection of all transport, plant and non-mechanical equipment periodically and methodically; arrange repair or recommend disposals as necessary.
• Verify that maintenance work is carried out promptly, recorded and documented correctly and complies with procurement procedures.
• Coordinate sales of redundant transport, plant and non-mechanical equipment including scrap disposal.
• Manage receipt, storage and distribution of all transport, plant and non-mechanical equipment.
• Ensure that contemporary records are maintained of all plant and transport including maintenance scheduling and tracking.
• Maintain contemporary records of scaffolding and formwork systems, maximise efficient utilisation.
• Ensure that all insurance claims relating to transport and plant are prepared, progressed and settled.
• Undertake staff appraisals.
• Recruit and direct plant operators ensuring licensing requirements are met.
• Manage non project storage activity and facilities.
• Resolve transport, plant and non-mechanical equipment allocation conflicts with the Operations Manager.
• Ensure that all insurance, certification, licensing and other documentary requirements of equipment and human assets is correct and safeguarded.
• Investigate and report on all reports or indications of asset abuse or unreasonable operation of assets.
• Ensure that a library of technical documentation is maintained for all assets.
Duties and Responsibilities – Third Party Assets
• Source suppliers, coordinate purchase or rental, and arrange mobilisation and demobilisation of transport, plant and non-mechanical equipment.
• Monitor timely delivery and return of external hired, transport, plant and non-mechanical equipment. Provide this service to head office and project management as required.
Duties and Responsibilities – Others
• Ensure that all plant and equipment invoices are correctly authorised for payment and resolve any pricing issues.
• Participate in the planning and scheduling by project management on the mobilisation and demobilisation of all resources to and from projects.
• Ensure that appropriate training is provided to staff and operatives under your management.
• Ensure that the department complies with Company policies.
• Prepare departmental budgets in cooperation with the Finance department.
• Prepare a detailed monthly report on maintenance, inspection and repair progress with particular emphasis on likely delays or long term downtime.
• Support commercial, cost control and estimating departments by providing costing usage data when required.
• Develop relationships and liaise with stakeholders in the equipment supply sector.
• Assist with facilities management where it falls within the department’s expertise.
